Add shortcut links to SharePoint Server Central Admin

Very quick post today. Or rather a tip that I use every time I have a new SharePoint Farm 🙂

When we need to access the Term Store, we need to click on Manage Service Applications, then click on the Managed Metadata Service Application, and then we have access to the Term Store. If we want to access the User Properties, we need to go to the Service Applications, click on the User Profile Service Application, and then select what we wish.

We can do all that, with just one click by creating a shortcut link right in Central, under the “Resources” webpart already there on the right side.

It might be saving you just one or two clicks, but I like that, so I thought I’d share.

Once you’ve created the Managed Metadata service application, you should have access to the Term Store (if correct permissions).

  • Navigate to the Term Store, and copy the full URL
  • Back to Central Admin (home page) » click on Add new link (under “Resources” on the right side)
  • Paste the Term Store URL
  • Give a name to the link (will be visible in Central Admin)
  • Click Save

Same thing here with the User Profiles service application

  • Navigate to the User Profiles service application, and copy the full URL
  • Back to Central Admin (home page) » click on Add new link (under “Resources” on the right side)
  • Paste the User Profiles URL
  • Give a name to the link
  • Click Save

There we have it!
